Our Mission

Defining what we do, and for whom — as an independent institute.

IAISA bridges the discourse on AI alignment and ethics — too often confined to technical discourse — with the realities of policy, industry, and society in Japan.

We propose institutional designs and implementation pathways grounded in Japan's specific context, addressing policymakers, industry, and civil society.

IAISA's mission is to envision a future society where the safe deployment of intelligent systems serves human dignity and the public good.

Sho OkiyamaSho Okiyama

Representative Director · IAISA

While AI advances exponentially at the world's frontier labs, the discourse on its safety — AI alignment and the AI ethics that underpins it — has not kept pace with this technical progress.

I stand at the frontline of technology as the leader of an AI company. At the same time, as an emergency physician, I have been present at the final moments of several hundred patients. Through these experiences, we have come to understand that technology driven solely by economic growth does not necessarily translate into the happiness of each individual.

IAISA will continue to put forward the discussions — and the shared understanding they require — needed to reconnect technology with human happiness, addressing a wide range of stakeholders including policymakers, industry, and civil society.
